The Internationaux de Strasbourg has undertaken a "global" approach, taking into account all the organizational functions of the event in order to reduce its carbon footprint. We work with a continuous improvement approach year after year to strengthen our status as the 1st eco-friendly event in France.
The objective is also to raise awareness among all the public (partners, service providers, players, spectators) and to support social actions.
OUR PRINCIPAL ACTIONS
WASTE RECYCLING AND SORTING:
- "Operation New Tennis Balls" during the tournament, 20 000 balls have been recycled since 2010
- Numerous sorting points on the tournament site for all spectators, with reinforced signage to promote waste prevention
- Management and recycling of bio-waste of the VIP catering and players. Unused food (120 kg / year) is collected and redistributed to local associations
- Recycling of the tournament backdrops to make promotional items
- Use of reusable glasses to avoid plastic waste
-
Collection of plastic bottle corks, for the benefit of the association Les Bouchons d'Amour 67, to finance the purchase of wheelchairs for people with reduced mobility.
-
Reducing the use of single-use plastic, by eliminating it for the general public and VIPs. Plastic bottles are kept for the players (for anti-doping reasons), and large bottles are used for the organization instead of small ones.
TRANSPORTATION:
- Reimbursement of the tram ticket (with CTS company) to the spectators to encourage them to take public transport
- Spectators arriving by carpool can park for free (3 or more in a car)
- Promotional code on IS tickets for spectators coming by TGV / TER (SNCF)
- Partnership with our official BMW transporter to provide electric and hybrid cars for the players and the organization team
ACCOMMODATION:
- Choice of hotels with the label "Clef Verte" ("Green key"), including our official Marriott hotel and the Residence Inn by Marriott
- Proximity to the tournament site to reduce travel: the MARRIOTT hotel is less than 1km from the tournament site.
FOOD PROVIDERS AND EQUIPMENT:
- Use (70% minimum) of organic, local and seasonal products
- Use of eco-designed tableware
- Selection of service providers based on sustainable development criteria
COMMUNICATION:
- Choice of printing media with official eco-label
- Reduced printing (VIP packs, tickets and dematerialized invitations)
- Use of an "eco-responsible event" logo in our communications, a reference recognized by the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME). When printing is necessary, we prefer biodegradable media, such as our seed flyers, in which field flower seeds have been scattered, and are used to flower gardens when they decompose.
SOCIAL ACTIONS:
- Inviting groups and charities to the tournament, and taking part in introductory tennis courses
- Organization of an employment forum
- Invitations for school groups
PUBLIC AWARENESS:
Eco-responsibility also means accessibility for all. The Internationaux de Strasbourg is offering a PMR/PSH platform, Yoolabox.com, to welcome and support disabled people at France's leading women's tennis event.
CARBON FOOTPRINT :
- Achievement of a carbon footprint every 2 years
- Reduction of carbon emissions by nearly 30% since 2010
INSTALLATION OF PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS
2021, 2022, 2023 : installation of photovoltaic panels on the Patrice Dominguez Centre Court, with the support of ENGIE, to supply the partner stands and Centre Court with green energy.
The aim is to expand these installations and the surface area of the photovoltaic panels to supply a wider range of tournament facilities in the years to come.
