1st french women's tennis tournament, 1st sporting event in the Grand Est and 1st événement éco-responsable français, la 39rd édition des WTA Strasbourg Tournament will take place from May 17 to 24, 2025 next to European Parliament, at the Tennis Club de Strasbourg, 20 Rue Pierre de Coubertin, Strasbourg.

Founded in 1987, the tournament was originally called the Strasbourg Grand Prix. As early as 1988, the Alsace Tennis League takes over the organization and renames the tournament WTA Strasbourg Tournament. He then became one of the “historic” events on the WTA calendar. In 2008, the French Tennis Federation has officially become owner of the tournament. After supporting the tournament, the federation decided to hand the event over to a entrepreneur privéclose to the tennis family.

Denis NAEGELEN, founder of the Quarterback agency,Alsatian and former tennis player quickly showed an interest in the " ISHe therefore pledged to become the "owner" of the date in the WTA calendar for the management and operation of the tournament from the 2010 edition onwards. At the end of 2019, Denis NAEGELEN bought the “IS” tournament from Quarterback, with the support of 3 other Alsatians : Jérôme FECHTER, Christophe SCHALK, and Pierre-Hugues HERBERT. Together they created the company HOPIS, based in Strasbourg.
Traditionally held the week before Roland-Garrosthe #IS takes place under the same conditions as the Grand Slam. With the same balls and the same clay surface, the WTA Strasbourg Tournament is the final stretch before Roland-Garros. The players really appreciate these conditionswhich enables the tournament to attract an exceptional draw every year.

The list of honorees includes such renowned players as Jana NOVOTNA (1989), Mary Joe FERNANDEZ (1994), Lindsay DAVENPORT (1995, 1996), Steffi GRAF (1997), Jennifer CAPRIATI (1999), Maria SHARAPOVA (2010), Samantha STOSUR (2015, 2017) Caroline GARCIA (2016), Elina SVITOLINA (2020, 2023) or even Madison KEYS. In 2020, the #IS was the the world's first tournamentmen's and women's tournament to welcome spectators to a professional tennis event, following the global health crisis. It was the tournament with the highest attendance, with 15,000 spectators present.
In 2021, the tournament was held in reduced gauge at the end of May. This event was the first in France to introduce the health pass. The IS welcomed 12 Top 50 players, including 2 Top 10s and 4 Top 20s! The Czech Barbora KREJCIKOVA added her name to the list of IS winners in this very special edition. Barbora also created a sensation by winning the French Grand Slam the following week : Roland-Garros. She's proving to the world just how much Strasbourg is the best preparation for Roland Garros.
In 2024, the Strasbourg Open attracted 37,500 spectators during the week of the tournament. They continue to develop around 3 key themes: women, sport and eco-responsibility.
In 2024, the tournament has taken a real turn since it is now part of the tournament category WTA 500. So the #IS becomes the 3rd plus grand événement in France, after Roland-Garros and the Rolex Paris Masters! This implies several changes more prize-money, a more impressive draw, double the number of spectators, and a gradual restructuring of the site.
